I had my first encounter with a tape recorder when I was ten years old, and it was love at first sight. My father had bought a small portable Radiola thingy, hoping it will help my sister in learning english. I grabbed it and didn't let it go. My sister was happy, I was in heaven.
I ended up spending decades with recording bags ready to shoot all over the world. It was my job. The archives are massive, but I didn't listen to them since at least 20 years.
I was curious about their condition, and had some listening sessions lately.
I suddenly decided to create atmosphere tracks, using those old recordings.
No beat, no melody, no chords, just one big bold long track, playing with frequencies and dynamic.
This is new to me, and definitely belongs to the ambient category.
